The Alliance Française de San Francisco, in partnership with the International Ocean Film Foundation, is pleased to announce a special screening of the film “Daughters of the Waves” as part of World Ocean Day, now celebrated and recognized during the entire month of June.
Directed by Lisa Monin and Sebastien Daguerressar of France, the film follows the lives of the Fierro sisters who live in Teahupo’o, the exact location of the upcoming 2024 Paris Summer Olympics. Amongst a new generation of Tahitian female surfers, the Fierro sisters are trailblazing their way and reclaiming their Polynesian heritage. Vahine, the eldest, is leading the charge and defining her own path in the legendary waves of Teahupo’o. She is now representing France in the Olympic surfing competition. Surrounded by ocean beauty, the area will soon become a destination for people from around the world who are captivated by the sport of surfing. Now, of great concern is the impact the Olympic competition will have on the pristine beaches and on the coral reefs below the famous waves.
Join us for this special evening where passion for cinema meets commitment to ocean conservation. Together, let's celebrate the beauty and richness of our marine world and be inspired to take action to protect it
