CINEMARE
CINEMARE will be hosting its 9th annual celebration of ocean-inspired films in the coastal city of Kiel, Germany. Inspired by the IOFF, CINEMARE is the first cultural exchange event between Sister Cities - Kiel and San Francisco. IOFF hosted the first film program exchange between the two film festival partners in San Francisco in March 2018, attended by dignitaries of the SF-KIEL Sister City exchange program. CINEMARE was created to celebrate the rich heritage of Kiel as an ocean-faring port city and to collaborate across the oceans that unite us - the very same ones that we strive to protect through the powerful messaging of film.
The Hope Summit
The Hope Summit is an annual event in Charleston at the end of September that addresses global multidisciplinary challenges and celebrates community-led solutions for a regenerative and equitable future. The 2024 summit will focus on reshaping our relationship with water and the ocean, emphasizing the interconnectedness of communities and the natural world. By seeing ourselves as part of the environment, the event aims to inspire hope and agency for communities to adapt and thrive.
Korea International Ocean Film Festival
In the picturesque town of Busan, South Korea, our 8th Annual partnership with the Korea International Ocean Film Festival takes place from July 19-21, 2024 in Yeongdo Park. With the theme of “Boundless Ocean” the festival is presented with local organizations such as Busan Metropolitan City and Marine Security Council (MSC).
World Ocean Day - Florida Tour
We’re headed back to Florida to co-present with our local partners a select group of films in honor or World Ocean Day, celebrated globally on June 8th.

A group of ocean-loving NGOs have joined forces to create the World Ocean Day Florida Tour, screening some of the best, award-winning films of the IOFF 20th Anniversary celebration.

Thunder Bay International Film Festival
Located in the northern part of Michigan along Lake Huron, the city of Alpena prides itself on its unique access to water, woods, and wildlife. Just offshore is the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary, one of sixteen marine protected areas of the U.S. and part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Now in its 12th year, the Friends of Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary are hosting the annual Thunder Bay International Film Festival, a winter tradition for audiences of all ages. Join us!
Korea International Ocean Film Festival
Now in its seventh year of being a member of the IOFF Traveling Program, the Korea International Ocean Film Festival will be screening a number of IOFF films. In the coastal town of Busan, a number of ocean-inspired organizations will take part in this one-of-a-kind film festival in South Korea. We hope you can join us!
Sea to Screen Film Festival
To celebrate World Oceans Day, the IOFF is partnering with the Harte Research Institute at Texas A&M University, Corpus Christi, TX, with an evening of ocean-themed films at the Alamo Drafthouse. This year’s selection of 12 family-friendly films will feature the world’s fisheries and the marine habitats and people that are vital to supporting them.
The National Aquarium
The National Aquarium in Baltimore, Maryland, is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to inspire the conservation of the world’s aquatic treasures. The Aquarium’s award-winning habitats are home to over 20,000 animals representing 800 species of fish, birds, amphibians, reptiles and mammals. Annually, 1.3 million guests visit the Aquarium, and millions more participate in its conservation, education, and engagement initiatives.
