Andy Brandy Casagrande IV

CINEMATOGRAPHER & CONSERVATIONIST

Short, sweet, and a little sharky - we are thrilled to share Andy Brandy Casagrande IV’s Sylvia Story today. Casagrande is an Emmy Award winning cinematographer, field producer, and television presenter specializing in international wildlife and natural history documentaries. His work has been featured on the world’s top television networks, from National Geographic to BBC and Animal Planet. With unconventional camera techniques, Casagrande helps the public see wildlife from a whole new point of view. Plus, you may recognize him from Shark Week.

IOFF: Tell us about yourself. What first interested you in the ocean?

Casagrande: I was born with a fascination of sharks, genetic obsession I assume.

IOFF: How has Sylvia Earle’s voice and work inspired you?
Casagrande: Sylvia is the ultimate ocean protectorate and warrior who has devoted her life to inspiring and empowering ocean activists around the globe.

IOFF: What is an example of recent policy changes or conservation wins that are good for the ocean and planet?
Casagrande: Mako sharks, wedge-fish and guitarfish were recently added to critical appendix II status, which is a huge win for these vulnerable species.

Thanks, Andy, for making our #SylviaStories a little sharkier.
